The Deuce Utility Vehicle (D.U.V.) Project – Custom M35A2 Deuce and a Half 6×6 Cargo Truck

Introducing the Deuce Utility Vehicle (D.U.V.) Project. If you thought the Project Humvee Battlewagon was big, then you will LOVE this!
We have added an even bigger US military surplus vehicle to the Gear Report project fleet.

Deuce… and a Half

This project started with a fairly standard 1968 M35a2 two and a half ton 6×6 cargo truck. Commonly known as the “Deuce-and-a-half” or “The Deuce.” We aren’t yet sure where it will stop.

First some pictures, then a list of what has been done, and what is to come…

Here is what Joe started with:

Why?

The main goal of The Deuce Project is to rejuvenate and extend the life of true workhorse.

What has been done so far

Joe started with a thorough mechanical checkup and repairs, fluid and consumables replacement and general reliability checks. Then moved on to these:

  • Complete brake job with new lines, hoses, wheel cylinders (M35A2 brake parts)
  • Changeover to M35A3 wheels with rear hub flip and 14.5×20 tires
  • Removed old bed
  • Currently starting on the crew cab conversion (late October, 2017)

Then the fun starts!

  • alternator upgrade
  • upgrades to electrical systems
  • separate 12v supply for accessories
  • interior and exterior lighting
  • dash gauge upgrades
  • seating improvements
  • sound deadening (The Battlewagon got LizardSkin interior coatings, we will likely try something else on The Deuce)
  • The long term improvement plan includes:
    • a crew cab utilizing a second deuce cab to create room for five
    • a new styled hardtop with rack will be added as well
    • hydraulic dump bed
    • an axle deletion, making it 4×4
    • the addition of an m105a2 trailer bed.
    • a new two piece driveshaft will be created as well
    • power steering or air assist
    • bed lining
    • complete weather seals
    • improving water fording to the windshield!

Where to get M35 parts:

  • Probably my “go to” for real military parts is M35A2 parts on ebay
  • You can get M35A2 books on Amazon
  • Actually, you can get a LOT of upgrade parts on Amazon. We have made it easy by adding a HMMWV section the Gear Report Amazon store and add parts to it as we find them. Many of the parts available on Amazon also fit the M35A2

M35A2 stuff

Master of Customization

While Jeff heads up the Battlewagon project, Gear Report new guy, Joe, will drive The D.U.V. Project forward.

“Don’t worry. I’ve known Joe for decades. The D.U.V. Project is in good hands” -Jeff
