The Bandit headlamp was still in the package when the video review above was filmed in April, but has gotten a LOT of use since then. The Streamlight Bandit LED headlamp works great and lasted through two weekend backpacking trips as my primary light without recharging on each trip. I also keep it in the 3V Gear Velox II pack that I carry daily as my laptop and weekend trip bag.

The Bandit headlamp is easy to use, with only one button. The flood beam in the low setting is plenty bright for seeing anything within reach after dark. If you intend to use the Bandit as your primary light for backpacking, then you need to be aware that the high beam only last about 2 hours. Honestly, if you are the sort that leaves your headlamp on for hours on end, then you may want a lamp with replaceable batteries. I tend to use my headlamp as little as possible when backpacking to reduce the number of batteries I have to carry. I do everything I can without the light, then turn on a light only for long enough to complete the task at hand. For this type of use the Bandit is great.

I also found that using the Bandit with the included headstrap works, but is better if you attach the bandit to the headstrap with the hat clip. This allows you to pivot the Bandit headlamp vertically. I find this much more comfortable than the fixed position of the Bandit when connected directly to the headstrap.

The only drawback of the Streamlight Bandit that I found is that it has a flood beam only. For most tasks this was no problem for me. However, when looking for tree limbs or bear bag cables to hoist our bear bags on the trail I found myself wishing for a spot beam. I was able to get the bear bags hung with the Bandit on the high setting, but it would have been easier with a spot beam.

The Streamlight Super Siege LED lantern is an outstanding multi-use tool for lighting an area, charging electronics, signalling for help, etc. We have used ours daily for 9+ months and it continues to impress. Every Boy Scout troop should use LED lanterns instead of propane or kerosene lanterns.

Streamlight Dualie 2AA LED flashlight is one of those brilliant 'Why didn't I think of that?!' products. Using a normal flashlight around camp just seems silly after using the Dualie.

The Streamlight Bandit LED rechargeable headlamp can be a great lightweight headlamp option, when used appropriately.
