The Situation:

The Project Humvee Battlewagon came from the US Army with a Mile Marker hydraulic winch, but no winch controller cable. I ordered an NOS HMMWV winch control cable online (NSN 2590-01-448-1105, P/N 12447171) (eBay link), but was disappointed to find that my winch would only work when the switch was pressed towards “OUT”. The winch controller switch I ordered would not make the winch work when pressed towards “IN”. Since the winch control handle was new, I assumed that there was a problem with the winch, wiring in the HMMWV, a winch control solenoid, etc. That turned out to be a false assumption.

Here is my winch and the black HMMWV winch controller cable I ordered:

The Problem:

The black winch controller cable is for HMMWVs with electric winches. The correct Mile Marker winch controller is a black cable with a yellow controller (NSN 6150-01-475-8835, P/N 983-74-1001)

The Solution:

If your HMMWV Mile Marker Hydraulic winch will only pay OUT under power, not IN, AND you have the black HMMWV winch controller NSN 2590-01-448-1105, P/N 12447171 then this simple change to the winch control cable plug will fix your controller.
If you have any other Humvee winch controller cable, then I have no idea if this might work.

All you have to do is swap black and white pins in the controller cable’s plug. This is easy. However it took me a while to figure out how to open the plug, to get access to the pins. This Cannon_Plug_diagram_CA3106E14S-1PBF80 helped, but still didn’t show that the inner ring is threaded to the cannon plug housing. Once I had the plug open it took all of about 2 minutes to carefully switch the pins. Once reassembled the Black Humvee winch controller worked perfectly with my Mile Marker hydraulic winch.
